The fifth-generation wireless networks 5G is set to revolutionize healthcare through its ultra-reliable, low-latency communication and gigabit-level wireless throughput. Designed to support digital transformation across industries, 5G is rapidly being adopted in manufacturing, transportation, and smart city infrastructure. In healthcare, its impact will be profound. With faster connectivity, enhanced bandwidth, and robust network reliability, 5G enables seamless communication between massive numbers of medical devices, enhancing telemedicine, remote surgery, smart ambulances, and emergency services. This workshop will provide an accessible overview of how 5G will shape the future of healthcare. Attendees will explore how 5G technology, combined with innovations such as artificial intelligence, edge-cloud computing, virtual reality, and robotics, creates a powerful ecosystem for delivering cutting-edge healthcare services.
Participants will explore the architecture of 5G, its key features compared to 4G, and real-world case studies of its application in healthcare, including a pioneering example from CUHK Medical Centre. The session will also focus on Taiwan’s advancements in digital healthcare, offering insights into building a healthcare ecosystem powered by 5G. Attendees will deep dive into the technical aspects of 5G deployment and infrastructure in healthcare, covering network planning, design, and security challenges. Through expert-led discussions, the session will culminate with a forward-looking panel on the future potential of 5G in transforming healthcare delivery.
