Interoperability and Clinical Data Integration for Next Generation Clinical Care

Staff shortages and financial constraints are increasingly significant concerns for healthcare systems worldwide. In the APAC region, these challenges are particularly acute due to the disproportionate growth of the population relative to the number of clinical professionals, especially nurses. Additionally, the vast geographical expanse and uneven population distribution in rural areas exacerbate the problem.

Innovative clinical care models, such as remote monitoring and surveillance, hospital-at-home programs, and data-driven clinical decision support, have the potential to make a significant impact on these healthcare challenges. These models rely on both current and historical data to assess patient conditions based on vital signs, monitor patient status and generate analytics and insights to enhance existing care models and protocols. The integration of medical devices and systems’ data is the basis of the clinical interoperability, together with the associated workflows and processes.

In the upcoming session, the importance of interoperability, pre-requisites and the opportunities it presents will be explored. Dr. Tamara will provide valuable perspectives based on current practices at Johns Hopkins Aramco Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Participants will gain first-hand insights into:

  • The origins of the interoperability journey
  • The opportunities and clinical benefits already achieved at Johns Hopkins Aramco Hospital
  • Upcoming advanced care models enabled by data and systems integration
  • Key lessons learned along the way
